When to get help straight away

Contact your gynaecologist, midwife or hospital at once if:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Sudden swelling of the face or hands, severe headache or vision problems
  • Your waters break or the baby moves less
  • You cannot keep fluids down, or you have a fever

In an emergency: 144

What you can do yourself

  • Against nausea

Small, frequent meals and enough fluids. Ginger may help.

  • Exercise suitably

Pregnancy exercise classes, swimming or walking relieve the back and pelvis.

  • Raise your legs

With swollen legs, put them up often and walk rather than stand.

Your first point of contact: the midwife

She supports pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period and knows which treatment fits now.
