Therascout does not diagnose. Have new, severe or persistent complaints checked by a doctor.

Hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flushes. Discuss with your gynaecologist whether it suits you.

When to see a doctor

See a doctor if you notice:

  • Bleeding more than 12 months after your last period
  • Very heavy or very irregular bleeding
  • Chest pain or pressure: call 144 at once
  • Persistent low mood

In an emergency: 144

What you can do yourself

  • Dress lightly

Several thin layers, a cool bedroom.

  • Exercise and sleep well

Regular exercise strengthens bones, mood and sleep.

  • Avoid triggers

Spicy food, alcohol, caffeine and smoking can make hot flushes worse.

Which therapies are used for menopause symptoms?

Sorted by the state of research on menopausal hot flushes. The rating shows how well the effect is supported, not whether it will help you.

What do the dots mean?
Established
recommended in guidelines, well studied
Partly supported
effect shown in studies, with limitations
Limited evidence
few or weak studies
Hardly studied
used, but hardly or not studied

The rating covers the research, not the therapist.

Therapists may offer several methods, so they can be counted more than once.
